2nd phase competition entry.
East was one of six finalists in the first phase of the Circle 33/Architecture Foundation ‘Innovation in Housing’ Competition and shortlisted to take part in the second stage.
Towards Victoria Park the building is low; public and private spaces are organized within a horizontal mesh at two levels. On the street side it is tall; a vertical mesh makes an edge to the road junction.

Repetition of structure, construction and servicing systems and a sustainable view of housing infrastructure provision contribute to cost efficiency. The spatial organisation gives the effect of a carpet of mews houses that rise up vertically when the space runs out.
Public and private spaces are located at the edges of the building next to a semi public footway. Residential uses are set above public uses such as a bicycle repair shop and a cafe. The building is clad in timber; dark on the outside and light in the inside mews spaces.
