Derwent Parade
Ideas rug Derwent Parade is a 1960’s shopping and housing parade set in Thurrock within the Green Belt. We asked the local residents and businesses what they wanted to spend £700,000 on improving. The most successful and busy element in the parade at the time was the weekly market. We therefore set up a market stall on four consecutive Saturdays, which asked residents for ideas and comments on our designs as we went along.
The ideas rug is a visualisation of this process: moving forwards and backwards from a list of uncensored ideas for improvements to a shortlist of 13 costed ideas ideas.
