Elthorne Park

When we came to Elthorne Park for the first time, we found it was a small, but complex maze of different rooms. We felt that if the public were to contribute meaningfully with ideas and comments on improvements to be carried out it would be necessary for them to know the existing park quite well. We therefore set up a treasure hunt/questionnaire on one Saturday which included our initial design ideas: better signage outside the park, mirrors where paths meet, illuminated trees, floating candles on a cleaned pool, a sheltered bench, lemon tea and cakes to compliment the lemon shape of the park.

Elthorne Park wonder People who were not able or willing to follow the treasure hunt could fill out a short version of the questionnaire on a postcard, which had been distributed to 2000 homes and was available around the park entrances on the day.
The outcomes of both treasure hunt and postcard questionnaires fed into meetings with the steering group and into the final proposals presentation in the park’s boxing club.
