Paradise Park
This is paradise
The consultation strategies for Paradise Park were threefold: Assembling a group of stakeholders representing communities with partially conflicting aspirations for the park and developing a shared framework plan with them; explaining the framework plan in a public consultation at a fun day in the park, which included the inauguration of the ‘Friends of Paradise Park’ management group; and a consultation specifically aimed at and designed for children aged 8-13.
Most of the problems of the park stemmed from years of neglect and underuse, and a desired side effect of all three consultations was the raised awareness of the resource of the local park, which increased use and safety even before the implementation of any physical improvements. Adults and children were asked to describe their idea of paradise, and pictures that children took within the park were exhibited and printed on T-shirts, which were returned as presents for their collaboration.
