Imagine that you live in London and that one summer day you get an idea that you want to see a cow in a field in the beautiful English countryside, you have heard about the Green Belt, the protected green land around the city, and you head off to the end of the tube line.

This great conceptual space without density, the site of all that is undefiled; how do you get there, what exactly is it all for, and where and when can you build your shed to stay the weekend? Picnics in the Green Belt is a self-initiated research project, developing and promoting ideas for an increased use of the Green Belt. London wants to expand. The edges of the city want to move, but the urban expansion at the fringe of the city is being prevented by restrictions of the Green Belt. But is the countryside really so precious that we cannot afford to use it?
