A strategy and guide to the implementation of a coherent high quality public realm.
Based on the Barking Development Framework we developed guidance for a movement strategy as well as set out design guidance to ensure a decent public realm background, while identifying special places where special designs, materials and public uses could be located. The entire High Street network was identified for use of extra high quality materials and the Town Square has been included as one of the Mayor’s 100 Public Spaces.

A tree planting strategy proposes where linear street spaces could be improved with lines of trees and where clumps of trees should be used. A special river ecology needs to be developed in conjunction with new cultural and recreational uses along the River Roding.
Client: London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
