East, with Martin Waters and Mark Lemanski, was one of six winning teams invited by the Architecture Foundation to develop proposals on the theme of a Car Free London.
Beyond the wish that one day all cars could be banished from London, we wanted to find out what people would do with the spaces given back. This process was able to be as wide ranging as people wanted, and encouraged fresh ideas about cars and parking, now that they were absent.

Invitations to a drop-in event were produced using postcards with pop-out cars revealing a void left to imagine alternatives. Design games were held at St. Alban’s Primary School, Camden. Spoof newspaper articles were written to report the new changes.
The final exhibition was held at the Oxo Tower, where visitors were encouraged to express their ideas in plasticine, film, post-it notes, conversation.
