Avery Hill Park Cafe

The new building replaces the previous café, which was located on the same site and destroyed by fire; the budget was consequently determined by money available from the insurance. The café is square in plan with full height windows located on all sides, offering views out across the park. The pitch of the roof extends out over both the south and west elevations to provide sheltered external space for the many local residents who visit the park regularly to walk their dogs. Amenities include two accessible public WCs and an external tap for public use (predominantly for dog water). Natural lambs-wool insulation, lime render, high performance thermal blockwork and services including a ground source heat pump, rainwater harvesting tank and grey water system warranted the Green Apple Award for sustainability.
