Stratford Stacked Housing
Major Housing Association required a 44-unit residential development on their site on a busy road in East London in Barking Road, Newham. We designed a building that related to the street and the park by creating a strong stepped geometry at the road edge, offering a feeling of protection, whilst retaining urban presence. A mix of one, two and three bedroom flats are topped with a terrace of two storey houses at fifth and sixth floors with deep amenity terraces. The plan shifts and cranks to facilitate good views and light. Internal corridors are shaped to enhance a feeling of generosity upon leaving or arriving by offering enough width to create choices to pause to get your keys out, or speak to a neighbour. Our design for this residential block was shortlisted for the Housing Design Awards 2014.
