Oxford Street Transformation

Oxford Street Transformation

With just three weeks to go until the traffic stops, were delighted to share the first images of our work on the groundbreaking Oxford Street pedestrianisation project.

Leading the design of the first phase of pedestrianisation of Oxford Street is a dream project for East architecture, landscape urban design ltd and we are delighted to be putting 30 years of high street expertise to work on the city’s most famous thoroughfare.

Stopping traffic on 26 October is just the beginning of the process, but from that day onwards well start to see a more welcoming and inclusive Oxford Street with new seating, new public spaces and plenty of trees in place by spring 2027.

Throughout this process we’ve had the pleasure of working alongside the Oxford Street Development Corporation (OSDC) and leading an amazing team of design collaborators to deliver the first phase of this massive project – a 1km pedestrianised section between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street – J&L Gibbons, Gehl - Making Cities for People, Publica, Etude and NRP (Norman Rourke Pryme).

There’s plenty of work still to come – were particularly excited to get started on testing and reviewing with Londoners as they walk through the transitional stages – so we hope you’ll stop by for a stroll along the next chapter in the life of this unique part of London.
